Château Mazeyres: Vineyards

Château Mazeyres enjoys a privileged position, as close to the centre of Libourne as any Pomerol estate. The château, although hidden from view behind a number of mature trees, stands to one side of the D910 as it heads northwards out of the town. The entrance to the estate sits directly on the first roundabout, the entrance flanked by two low gateposts which resemble giant chess pawns, cast in cement.

This is the very edge of the Pomerol vineyard. As I have already indicated Château de Sales lies just to the north, just to the east lie Clos René and Château Moulinet, and along the D1089 which skirts the top of Libourne there lie Château Bonalgue, Château La Pointe, Château Nenin and Château Plince. To the south and west, however, there are no vines. Head south and you will be snarled up in the Suburbs of Libourne, while beyond the E LeClerc supermarket to the west there is the Lac des Dagueys, a manmade lake, and the Isle, the river which along with the Dordogne built the sand and gravel terraces of Pomerol.
