Château Mazeyres: The Querre Era

Little had changed by 1908 when the same two vignerons were listed in the latest edition of Cocks et Féret. A little more wine was being produced, the output now 40 tonneaux per annum, and there was a Monsieur Dubois producing 20 tonneaux at another domaine, the L’Enclos de Mazeyres. The most significant change came with the acquisition, during the years that followed, to the Querre family.

The Querre family were négociants who had arrived in the region during the closing decade of the 19th century. The firm was established by Théophile Querre, who went on to purchase Château Mazeyres in 1909. He subsequently passed the business to his sons Daniel and Christian Querre, who worked together in the running of the domaine for many years. Daniel appears to have been the most active in terms of acquiring vineyards, as evinced by his acquisition of Château Monbousquet in 1945, which he subsequently passed to his son Alain Querre.
