Château L’Église-Clinet Retrospective, 2015: A Closing Crescendo

The 2004 L’Église-Clinet  showed well for the vintage, and my opinion of it sits well with my general impression of 2004 Bordeaux formed at last year’s ten years on tasting. The tasting closed with the 2005 L’Église-Clinet , poured from both magnum and bottle. I last tasted this wine in January 2015 in my 2005 Bordeaux tasting when I wasn’t happy with the condition of the wine; it tasted stewed rather than fresh, and I commented on these doubts in my tasting note. I am glad I did so, because the 2005 vintage, poured here from bottle and magnum, is really very impressive indeed, and along with the aforementioned 2000 vintage one of my two favourites for this château. Right now, however, it is a brooding titan that I think does not welcome being disturbed. As I noted in the aforementioned tasting and in my recent 2005 La Petite Église report this is a vintage that demands more time in the cellar, and the 2005 L’Église-Clinet  is no exception to this rule.
