Château La Violette: Vineyards
Catherine Péré-Vergé acquired two distinct plots of vines totalling 3.25 hectares. The first and most important plot is a 1.6-hectare vineyard located very centrally, just north of Catusseau, a small village located close to the centre of the Pomerol appellation. The vines are located just off the Chemin de Nenin, to the north and west is Château Trotanoy, to the south and east a little is Le Pin, two illustrious neighbours indeed. When standing among the vines, looking north-east affords a very fine view of the church in Pomerol, a view which, as the property was now devoid of its own château, Catherine selected for the La Violette label.
The second of the two plots Catherine acquired is not far away, but it is slightly lower down the Pomerol plateau, close to Château Feytit-Clinet. Here the vines are not so favoured, with a less profoundly gravelly terroir compared to that near Château Trotanoy – in fact we are very close to the D1089 here, and the sands beyond – and there is a slight dip in the land which tends to retard ripening. The fruit from this plot is no longer utilised for the modern-day La Violette, and is in fact declassified into Château Montviel, the Péré-Vergé property situated just across the road in Moulinet.
