Château Petit Village: Vineyards
The vineyards of Château Petit Village lie directly east of the village of Catusseau, and unusually they lie in a single block (rather than being scattered across the land in many different parcels) in the shape of a triangle which, like a giant arrow-head, points back towards the village. The base of the arrow-head lies against the estate of Château La Conseillante to the east, while at the upper tip of the triangle lie Vieux Château Certan and Château Certan de May. Just to the north, beyond some other vines, lies the Ruisseau du Mauvais Temps, the stream that is the main route for the drainage of water off the Pomerol plateau. To the south lie the vineyards of Château Beauregard, also in the possession of the Moulin-Houzé family.
There is no grand château here, instead there is a rather unimposing collection of buildings which surround a small courtyard, situated at the very centre of the triangle. Actually, they are somewhat more imposing since they were augmented by a very prominent ‘extension’ placed over the courtyard (pictured), although the impact is one of modernism rather than 18th-century grandeur. This has only recently been enhanced with the addition of a rooftop terrace, access by a very prominent glass-walled elevator set against the side of the building.
