Château Latour à Pomerol: The Veuve Loubat
Having skipped forward a little to examine the relationship between Château Latour à Pomerol and the lieu-dit Feytit, I will now return to the story of Louis and Marie, who lived “at Feytit” (presumably at Château Latour à Pomerol) from 1877 until 1904. Here they had three daughters, Marie Louise Garitey (1877-1961, born “at Feytit”), Marie Marthe Garitey (1882-1968) and Marie Élisabeth Joséphine Ida Garitey (1885-1963). Of the three daughters it is the eldest, Marie Louise, who is of greatest significance. On January 24th 1899 she was wedded to Jean Loubat (born 1867) who for some unknown reason was better known as Edmond, and who was ten years her senior.
In 1914, presumably consequent upon the demise of both her parents, the Garitey estate was divided and passed onto the next generation. Château Latour à Pomerol appears to have come to Marie-Louise. Of note another estate also owned by the family, Château Guadet-Saint-Julien (today known just as Château Guadet) in St Emilion, was also passed down through the family, eventually coming into the possession of Guy Pétrus-Lignac, a figure who will crop up in this story again.
