Château Lafleur-Gazin: Tasting & Drinking

Exploring the comments with which I concluded on the preceding page a little further, Château Lafleur-Gazin has indeed been on the receiving end of criticism from a number of notable authors in the past, based on its name and location, as if we should expect such an estate to give us the very best of all Château Lafleur and Château Gazin have to offer. Robert Parker, for example, wrote in Bordeaux: A Comprehensive Guide (Dorling Kindersley, third edition, 1998), “[g]iven the vineyard’s location, it remains perplexing that the wines are so simple and light.” In fact, if we pay attention to where Château Lafleur-Gazin is to be found within the appellation, details on which I have provided above, and not simply the estate’s name, it seems quite clear why the wines have this character.
