Château La Fleur de Gay: The Barraud Era
It is quite plausible that Jean Angle, his wife Claire, and various other Larroucaud and Angle family members were at this time living and working at Pignon; after all, there is a considerable collection of old buildings here that would probably once have housed a number of different families. But it is the descendants of Jean and his wife that came to dominate. Their daughter Marguerite Angle (1880 – 1972) married Jean-Marie Joseph Barraud (1854 – 1951), who like Barthélemy Larroucaud also served as mayor of Pomerol, from 1912 until 1919, and he was also a key figure in the local syndicat. He was the son and grandson of Jean Barraud and Raymond Barraud respectively, and plausibly a descendant of one of the aforementioned 15th-century Barraud brothers mentioned on the first page of this profile.
Jean-Marie Joseph Barraud and his wife Marguerite had one child, Claire Marie Marthe Barraud (1900 – 1968), who went by the name of Marthe. In 1920 she married Jean Marcel Ardurat and with the passing of time they came to inherit the family domaine, which they continued to develop and expand. They had one daughter named Geneviève in 1925, and in 1947 she married Noël Raynaud (1923 – 1997), who soon took over the running of the domaine.
