Château Feytit-Clinet: Vineyards
As indicated in my introduction, the vineyards of Château Feytit-Clinet lie on the Chemin de Feytit, partway up the slope of the Pomerol plateau. The vines lie in several plots around the château, but they also surround neighbouring Château Latour à Pomerol. Other neighbours include Château Clinet, located a short distance uphill of Château Feytit-Clinet, and Château Bourgneuf, which owns vines further down the slope. There is also a plot near here which was acquired by the late Catherine Péré-Vergé as part of Château La Violette, although this wine is routinely declassified into the wine of Château Montviel, the wines of La Violette being sourced exclusively from the high-plateau vines next to Château Trotanoy.
They estate covers just short of 7 hectares of the appellation, with 6.5 hectares of land committed to the vine. Being on the slope there are certainly some gravelly soils here although, as he above paragraph suggests, not all sections of this lower part of the slope are as desirable as those higher up on the plateau. This can be seen in the Feytit-Clinet vineyard, the soils of which tend towards a more sandy consistency the lower down the slope you walk. The photograph below, illustrating the rather rich, sandy character of the lower part of the vineyard, was taken in the vineyard directly adjacent to the château.
