Le Clos du Beau-Père: Vineyards
As already noted the cellars of Le Clos du Beau-Père sit well down on the Pomerol slope, next-door to Château Bellegrave. There are 4 hectares of vines, in three parcels. The first two parcels were part of the original Château Ratouin vineyard acquired in 2006. The first, a slightly larger parcel approximately 1.2 hectares in size, planted exclusively to Merlot, is on deep gravel soils close to Clos René.
The second, approximately 0.8 hectares, is a little further north, on clay and gravel soils not far from Château Patache. The third and more recent acquisition, the 2 hectares of vines added in 2009, are situated near Château Bourgneuf, a little higher up the slope.
The varieties planted are Merlot, accounting for 90% of the vineyard, and Cabernet Franc, which accounts for the other 10%. The former are aged about 45 years, on average, the latter about 20 years. In addition, there is also a relative new vineyard of white varieties, a 0-5-hectare plot planted to Sauvignon Blanc and Sauvignon Gris.
