Château Beauregard: The Chaussade Family

Jérôme de Bonneau was a widower, aged 46, and he was thus twenty years older than Philippe when they were wed. The union produced four children, including a son Jean, who inherited his father’s title, and three daughters named Jeanne, Catherine and Marie-Claire. Of these it is Jeanne de Bonneau that is of most interest to us; on August 6th 1702 she married a musketeer named Pierre de Chaussade de Chandos (died 1742).

The Chaussade de Chandos family originated from Périgord and had been ennobled in 1657; this noble family were clearly keen on showing their loyalty through military service, as various family members served in the Candale and Gugan regiments as well as the Royal Guard. Pierre himself had taken up arms at the age of just 14 years. By the time of their marriage he was Sieur of Chandos and Roquenègre, and the family held a number of other seigneuries. As well as those held by Pierre, there was also Saint-Luc, le Soley, Lambertie, Mellet, la Roche, Voulzon, Layan, Jolimont and Chantérac. It was presumably through Pierre’s marriage to Jeanne that they also acquired the seigneurie of Beauregard.
