Château Plince: Vineyards

As indicated in my introduction, the château is located to the south-west of Catusseau, and not far from Château Nenin. This places it very close to the edge of the Libourne suburbs and the D1089, which runs along the top of Pomerol and then turns to head in a more northerly direction, close to the edge of the Pomerol appellation. Other nearby estates include Château Ferrand, to the south-east, and Château Taillefer, slightly further south again. To the north, on the far side of the Route de Montagne, lies Château la Pointe.

The estate covers 10 hectares all told, although only 8.66 hectares are planted to vines. There are some gardens around the château which will account for at least some of the ‘missing’ land. The soils are quite sandy in this section of the appellation, although they are also peppered with the characteristic crasse de fer. The proportions of the main varieties in the vineyard has changed only a little since the 1980s, and today Merlot still dominates at 72% of the vineyard, with 23% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon still.
