Château Lagrange: Tasting & Drinking
The wines of Château Lagrange tend to reflect their origins on the northern periphery of the Pomerol appellation, close to the Barbanne (visible behind the vineyard post pictured), demonstrating a lighter style; not as light as some wines from very sandy soils at the foot of the slope, perhaps, but nevertheless not displaying the form and frame that you find from the top wines on the plateau.
As a result the wines tend to drink earlier than the top wines of the appellation, perhaps during the decade after they have gone into bottle. Taken in that context, these are good wines, as we should expect from the Moueix family, and this is an estate worth following. (9/1/20)
