Château du Domaine de L’Église: Tasting & Drinking
Despite its position on the Pomerol plateau (not quite central, but it is certainly up and away from the Barbanne), surrounded by a slew of over-achieving neighbours, the wines of Château du Domaine de L’Église have rarely made any great impression on me. Although, having said that, I found the 2008 to show considerable appeal, bringing hope of a revitalisation of the estate now under the direction of Frédéric Castéja. This was followed by a pretty good 2009, but a rather soft and open style of wine in 2010, one which I didn’t find so appealing as the 2008. These are mostly barrel samples though, and so I have to remain circumspect about saying with certainty which vintage I would prefer over any other.
