Château Saint Georges Côte Pavie: Vineyards

As I described in the introduction to this profile, the estate sites at the western end of the Côte de Pavie, behind Château La Gaffelière, the contiguous nature of these two estates being why the Gallo-Roman remains are scattered across both. To the north is Château Moulin Saint-Georges, a mere stone’s throw away, while along the Côte de Pavie to the east are Château Pavie, Château Pavie-Decesse and Château Larcis Ducasse. To the south are the vineyards of Château Haut-Simard and Château Simard.

The vineyard accounts for 5.5 hectares all told, of which 5 hectares sits on the Côte de Pavie, around the château, while the remaining 0.5 hectares can be found up on the plateau, next to Château Ausone. There was a detailed soil analysis conducted in 2009, revealing the terroir to be clay and limestone, principally Molasses de Fronsadais on the Côte de Pavie, the more superficial soils a mix of sandy green clay, feldspar, gravels and stones.
