Château Destieux: Vineyards

Château Destieux occupies one of the highest vineyards in St Emilion, on an outcrop of limestone plateau shared with Château Ferrand, the estate’s immediate neighbour. Many noteworthy names lie nearby though, including Château Laroque, Château Rocheyron, Clos Dubreuil and Château Fombrauge to the north and west, the less familiar Château Boutisse and Château Cantin to the north and east.

There are 8.12 hectares of vineyard planted, with the vines aged more than 40 years on average. The mix of varieties are 66% Merlot, 17% Cabernet Franc and 17% Cabernet Sauvignon. For years the vineyard has been looked after by Michel Duclos, a renowned ‘champion pruner’, who directs a conventional way of working in the vineyard, with no commitment to organic or similar methods. The vines are treated to a fairly traditional programme of ploughing, pruning, leaf-thinning and green harvesting.
