Clos des Jacobins: Tasting & Drinking

The wines of Clos des Jacobins were in fact some of the earliest examples of Bordeaux and St Emilion I encountered, back in the days when it went by the more formal name of Château Clos des Jacobins. Vintages from the better vintages of the 1980s seemed to have plenty to offer, even though the domaine was not enjoying a great reputation at this time.

It is perhaps in more recent years, under the direction of the Decoster family, that the situation has really improved here. The style leans towards the modern, but does not tend to go over the edge into over-extraction or overt sur-maturité, and as a consequence the wines are rich in fruit character but also perfumed and fresh.
