Château Tour Saint Christophe: Tasting & Drinking

As part of Vignobles K, Château Tour Saint Christophe is a property worth knowing about and worth following. Quality has climbed significantly under the direction of Jean-Christophe Meyrou and Emmanuelle d’Aligny-Fulchi, and this is likely to continue in the future.

Of recent vintages, both 2020 and 2019 have shown very well; I know Jean-Christophe prefers the more recent of these two vintages, although I think it is a close-run competition, and I would not be surprised to see 2019 assert itself as the more worthy vintage given time. Whichever comes out on top, I think the difference in quality between the two is minimal. The 2018 vintage shows the characteristically rich and robust style which defines the vintage, while a recent encounter with 2017 seemed more leafy than I expected, considering the property suffered no significant damage in that year’s frost. The aromatics, which call to mind green tobacco and peppercorn, are certainly a divergence from the usual style though. The 2016 and 2015 vintages are also strong efforts, and it will be interesting to see how they turn out after a few more years in the cellar.

Château Tour Saint Christophe is clearly an estate to watch. The quality of the wines, the estate’s pristine presentation and its 2022 promotion all testament to Peter Kwok’s commitment and Jean-Christophe’s dedication. I look forward to the opportunity to revisit some of these young vintages as they mature, as well as tasting more young vintages in the future. (2/3/23, updated 24/8/24)
