Château Péby Faugères: Vineyards

The estate is located on the eastern edge of the St Emilion appellation close to St-Etienne-de-Lisse, on the slopes of the St Christophe plateau. Near neighbours include Château de Pressac to the west, Château Mangot, Château Valandraud (previously Château Bel-Air-Ouÿ) and Château Fleur Cardinale to the north. To the east lie the vineyards of Castillon, including neighbouring Château Cap de Faugères. Of course, the estate’s closest neighbour is Château Faugères, that estate’s chai, designed by Mario Botta, lies just down the road and it affords an impressive view over the vineyards of both estates, and the buildings which serve as the Péby Faugères chai.

The vineyards of Château Péby Faugères amount to just 7.45 hectares, and they are perhaps unsurprisingly intertwined with the vineyards of Château Faugères. There are two principal parcels; confusingly, each is closely related to one of the other Faugères châteaux. The first parcel sits on the southeast-facing slope that runs down below the imposing chai of Château Faugères. The land then bottoms out and starts to climb again towards the vineyards of Château Cap de Faugères and Castillon. Just before the boundary between St Emilion and Castillon on a gentle southwest-facing slope, is the other major parcel of vines.
