Château Croix de Labrie: Vineyards

The cellars of Château Croix de Labrie sit in the commune of Saint-Christophe-de-Bardes, on what is sometimes referred to as the Saint-Christophe plateau. Only a few years ago this corner of the St Emilion appellation was broadly overlooked, all eyes drawn towards the limestone plateau or a handful of other properties on the clay and limestone slopes closely approximated to the town. In more recent times, however, these more eastern parts of the plateau seem to have come into their own, with new and revitalised estates springing up around every corner.

Château Croix de Labrie is just one of their number. Next-door, to the east, is Château Rocheyron, the estate run by Peter Sisseck, perhaps better known for the Spanish wine Pingus. Then moving around the property in a clockwise direction there is Château Laroque, revitalised by David Suire, Clos Dubreuil, an estate essentially created by the Trocard family during the 1990s, Château Lapelletrie, Château Tour Saint Christophe, revivified by Jean-Christophe Meyrou and team, Château Vallade, Château Sanctus, Château Fombrauge and Château Franc-Laporte. Some of these are increasingly well-known names, and you have to wonder if their neighbours aren’t ‘ones to watch’.
