Château Côte de Baleau: Tasting & Drinking
Château Côte de Baleau has far from the most prestigious terroir in the St Emilion appellation, and yet the wines seem attractive, and the quality offered here in recent years has been recognised by promotion within the St Emilion classification. My recent experiences with the estate and its wines largely reflects en primeur encounters, which has to be taken into account, but the wines do seem to offer something promising, being dark but perfumed and intriguing. They are certainly not part of the modernista camp, where the wines are defined seemingly by how over-ripe the fruit profile and how high the alcoholic strength can be. These wines are more elegant than that.
