Clos Dubreuil: Tasting & Drinking
My first encounter with Clos Dubreuil was a good one, and although subsequent vintages of this cuvée I have encountered continue this very modern theme, the wines do hold onto a sense of freshness and life. While the fruit is clearly lavished with attention in the cellar, it seemed to me that Benoît was sensitive to the importance of picking at the right moment. These are impressive wines built on very ripe but not generally sur-mature fruit.
The wines therefore demonstrate damson and black cherry fruit, in a dark and confident style. This comes laced with scents of vanilla and charcoal from the toast on the barrels, but these latter components never dominate the wealth of fruit.
