Clos Badon Thunevin: Tasting & Drinking

My experience with the wines of Jean-Luc Thunevin has largely come during visits to his various domaine, as although I admire the style that runs through the portfolio, these are not wines that I tend to add to my own cellar. It is not that I have anything against the wines, it is simply a case of too many wines, and not enough time.

This means that many of my notes reflect encounters with en primeur samples, which is worth bearing in mind as I believe the approach of Jean-Luc Thunevin (and his team) to en primeur samples to be one of the ‘looser’ ones in the region. The samples presented are very uncertain blends which in some cases do not reflect the finished blend, and there may be other changes to come such as the addition of press wine. Of course, all en primeur notes need to be read with some caution, but these perhaps more than others. Far from being a complaint, we should applaud Jean-Luc for his honesty concerning the nature of the wines he presents at this time.
