Clos Marsalette: Vineyards

The vineyards of Clos Marsalette are located in Martillac, in close proximity to a number of other notable Pessac-Léognan estates, including at least one classed growth, but in the main its neighbours are worthy but unclassified names. Having said that, these are not easy vineyards to track down. Having been created from the gathering together of a few parcels of vines, there were – as already elucidated in this profile – no cellars or other winemaking facilities here. So there is certainly no grand château, like you might find at Château Haut-Bergey. There is no grand entrance to the estate, no decorative wrought-iron gates supported by towering stone pillars, like those at Château La Mission Haut-Brion. And there is no road-side sign declaring ownership of the vines, the proprietors clearly not interested in following the example set by their neighbour at Château Lespault-Martillac.

The vineyards are located close to the D109 as it heads south towards La Brède. They sit alongside Château Lespault-Martillac, while to the west are the vineyards of Domaine de la Solitude, while to the east (and north a bit, admittedly) are the vineyards of Château La Garde and the aforementioned classed growth, Château Latour-Martillac.
