Château Haut-Lagrange: Vineyards

The vineyards are located on the outskirts of Léognan, directly to the south of Château La Louvière, Château Haut-Bailly and Château Larrivet Haut-Brion. Viticulture has a strong presence in this landscape, with Château Smith-Haut-Lafitte, Château de Rochemorin and numerous other vineyards scattered to the east and south, although they jostle for position with the suburbs of Léognan and Martillac, interspersed with surrounding patches of woodland.

Following the sale of 11.5 hectares in 2009 there are today just over 8.5 hectares of vines here, planted on Terrace 3 soils featuring gravelly deposits from the Garonne, as would be expected, along with elements of clay and sand. Red vines dominate, accounting for 7.5 hectares of the estate, and these are 45% Merlot and 55% Cabernet Sauvignon. The white varieties are 50% Sauvignon Blanc and 50% Semillon, and these make up the remaining 1 hectare. The vines are planted at a density of 7,700 pieds per hectare, and are approximately thirty-years old.
