Château Bastor-Lamontagne: Vineyards

Château Bastor-Lamontagne is located south of the Autoroute des Deux Mers which cuts through the Sauternes and Barsac vineyards. The château and cellars sit at the roadside, nestled into Les Comailles, a sweep of woodland which sits to the east of the vines, on the other side of which lie the vineyards of Château Romer. To the south, just on the other side of the same patch of woodland, lie the vineyards of Château Suduiraut. To the north, on the far side of the autoroute, there lies a patchwork of vineyards which include those of Château de Malle. The château is not too hard to find if you are hunting for it; two huge plane trees, the largest I have ever seen by some margin, sit on the opposite side of the road, flanking a gateway into the vineyard; they act as a useful landmark, being visible for some distance.

The Château Bastor-Lamontagne vineyards mostly lie to in a single block which runs to the north-west away from the château, towards Lamothe, where both Château Lamothe and Château Lamothe-Guignard can be found. Today the vineyard covers 46 hectares all told, all in this single block. They lie entirely in Preignac, one of the five communes entitled to the Sauternes appellation.
