Château d’Arche: Tasting & Drinking

There is certainly much promise at Château d’Arche. In reference to the sweet wines, recent good vintages will have enhanced the potential of the vineyard, which does lie on one of the more impressive gravel ridges of the Sauternes appellation. Nevertheless, I would describe the wines as perfectly good, rather than stunning. There is no doubt that they have shown improvements in the hands of the new owners, however, and they are certainly worth following.

Recent strong vintages are several in number, with 2017, 2015 and 2014 showing well, although 2009 is perhaps the most convincing vintage I have tasted. For a lesser vintage the 2020 showed very nicely, although it was particularly interesting for the opportunity to taste the 2020 Cuvée Arche Lafaurie, the Crème de Tête cuvée which I have encountered only rarely.

I look forward to tasting more vintages in the future; maybe I should procure an Arche en Tubes pack of five vintages for me to taste! (22/8/12, updated 17/7/21)
