Château Larrivet-Haut-Brion: Vineyards

Château Larrivet-Haut-Brion is located just outside Léognan, on the road heading towards Cadaujac, the same road as Château Haut-Bailly, Château La Louvière and Château Carbonnieux. It is thus quite distant from Haut-Brion, La Mission Haut-Brion and Les Carmes Haut-Brion, all of which are much further north, little enclaves of vines hidden within the suburbs of Bordeaux.

Château Larrivet-Haut-Brion is therefore not only administratively but also geographically distinct from these other properties, regardless of the similarity of their names, which as I have already indicated is down to the gravelly soils on which these estates are sited. With the expansion under Guillemaud and then the Gervoson families, the vineyards have now grown to cover 72.5 hectares of the Pessac-Léognan appellation. The most recent expansion was just before the 2009 vintage, when an 11.5-hectare plot neighbouring the Larrivet-Haut-Brion estate was purchased.
