Château de France: Tasting & Drinking
The story of Bordeaux through the 20th century is often one of decline, and occasionally one of dereliction. After the vine diseases of the latter years of the 19th century, the war and economic depression during the first few decades that followed only served to compound the region’s decline. While all châteaux were touched to some extent, Château de France is one of the most striking examples of decline followed by a phoenix-like recovery. It is a delight to see today the château, and to taste the wines, both so nearly lost forever. Without the actions of the Thomassin family, it is almost certain that this would have been the outcome.
