Clos Floridène: Vineyards
The domaine is located in Pujols-sur-Ciron, to the south west of Barsac, about a kilometre outside the Barsac appellation. It lies centrally in a small triangle of vineyards entitled only to the Graves appellation. Bordering this triangle on the western side is woodland, a forest of tall pine trees arising from a dense carpet of bracken. To the south and east there flows the Ciron, the small yet big-hearted river which runs down between the vineyards of Barsac and Sauternes, generously blanketing these two regions with icy river mists, engendering the development of botrytis rot as it does so. To the north lies the autoroute, over the other side of which is Barsac.
The entrance to the domaine lies on a bend in the road, but if you visit do not come expecting to see a grand château. There is merely a rather plain-looking chai, and some well-maintained stone walls around the vineyard. Behind the cellars, there sit a collection of houses and other buildings. The cellars and the walled vineyard is just the nub of the domaine though; dotted all around are vineyards many of which contribute to the Clos Floridène cuvées, and these parcels stretch from the limestone plateau of Pujols-sur-Ciron to the gravelly terrace of Illats.
