Château Marquis de Terme: Vineyards

Château Marquis de Terme is located just to the west of the D2 as it enters the village of Margaux. This places it close to the beating heart of the Margaux appellation, and it has some illustrious neighbours. Just to the east there lies on the opposite side of the road Château Palmer, while just to the south, in a nod to their shared origins, are both Château Rauzan-Ségla and Château Rauzan-Gassies.

Including the recently acquired parcels from Château Marojallia, the vineyard at Château Marquis de Terme accounts for approximately 46 hectares of the appellation, with the largest section, a vineyard of 19.5 hectares, on the plateau on the far side of the village of Margaux, closer to Château Lascombes. The terroir underfoot here is a typical gravelly soil over clay. There are in addition 5.5 hectares planted around the château, also on fine gravel, 4 hectares on soils of gravel and dark sand at Aux Gondats, and an impressive 9 hectares on gravel and clay vineyards on the Cantenac plateau, which lies just to the south of the village. The 6 hectares which came from Château Marojallia (which also fed into that domaine’s Clos Margalaine cuvée) are on gravelly soils also close to the village. While few of these vineyards (other than the Marojallia vines) really match the estate’s very central location, many of these parcels have an enviable position.
