Château Marquis d’Alesme: Tasting & Drinking
There are some cru classé estate I am intimately familiar with, and some where my knowledge is more fleeting. I would say that Château Marquis d’Alesme is more likely to find itself in the latter group, than in the former. Even travelling regularly to Bordeaux for primeur tastings, and in-bottle tastings, my encounters with the wines seem to have been infrequent.
Looking at older vintages tasted many years ago, I found the wines of Château Marquis d’Alesme Becker (as it was then) somewhat lacking. But look back over my last half-dozen encounters and there have been some really worthwhile wines here. The 2016 vintage would appear to be the most promising, with 2018 hot on its heels. The 2014 vintage was a nice result in what is generally an over-rated vintage, while 2017 was impressive, the team here obviously working hard to ensure the frost had no impact on quality.
