Château Laffitte Carcasset: Tasting & Drinking

The wines of Château Laffitte Carcasset offer an approachable and relatively affordable route into the world of St Estèphe, before you step up to filling your cellar with multiple vintages of Château Montrose. Or Château Meyney, if your budget is a little closer to mine.

Strong vintages in recent years include – unsurprisingly – a fine 2022 and a very good 2019 as well. The 2016 vintage, followed by the 2018 vintage, come next. I was less enamoured with the 2020 vintage than I would have expected, but perhaps we can revisit this view next time I encounter a bottle. If you insist on looking back any further your best bet may well be the 2014 vintage, perhaps not a surprise as this vintage was stronger in St Estèphe than it was further south.

As for The Corsair of Laffitte Carcasset and Reflet de Laffitte Carcasset, any encounters I have had with these cuvées suggest that these are of limited interest, and my advice would be to stick with the grand vin. (18/2/26)
