Château La Voûte: Vineyards

As noted in the introduction to this profile, the cellars of Château La Voûte are located in Saint-Etienne-de-Lisse, on the eastern plateau of the St Emilion appellation. Although we are just a stone’s throw from the vineyards of Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux here, this is an increasingly significant corner of St Emilion, and it is dotted with a number of significant properties.

These include the premier grand cru classé Château Valandraud of course, as well as a host of grand cru classé and other notable names, including Château Mangot, Château Faugères, Château Péby Faugères, Château de Pressac, Clos des Baies, Château Poesia, Château Rol Valentin, Château Fleur Cardinale and, stretching westwards a little, on the geographical and stylistic boundaries of what might be referred to as ‘eastern’, Château Laroque and Château Rocheyron.

Gaëtan Moreau has 2.27 hectares of vines which are divided between two zones. The most significant vines are the 1.42 hectares associated with the cellars in Saint-Etienne-de-Lisse, located on desirable clay and limestone soils, and which are dedicated to the grand vin. The vines are 45 years old on average, but some recent replanting (pictured) may bring this figure down a little.
