Château Tour des Termes: Vineyards
The cellars of Château Tour des Termes are located on the southern outskirts of St-Corbian, inland of St-Estèphe. A rather modern residence sits looking out towards the road from the centre of a small park dotted with trees and shrubs. Behind this, down a side street, looking more like a garage than a cuverie, lie the long and narrow cellars.
The Château Tour des Termes vineyard is divided between three distinct parcels. One is blessed with 8 hectares of deep gravel, rather typical of the Médoc peninsula, situated close to Château de Pez, while the other two parcels feature more clay, with deeper limestone. In truth this is not unusual in parts of St Estèphe; despite the Médoc’s reputation for gravel, there being many parts of this appellation which are characterised by clay soils settled over the commune’s Calcaire de St Estèphe. One of these two limestone parcels, 7 hectares in size is situated in front of Château Tour des Termes; together with the gravel parcel described above this makes up the 15 hectares of vineyard Christophe Anney originally focused on.
Having said that today there are 35 hectares of vines in total, the varieties dominated (unusually, for the commune) by Merlot, at 60% of the vineyard, with 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% each Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
