Château Petit Bocq: Vineyards
Château Petit Bocq itself is located in Pez, nestled in among the houses and vines on the east side of the village, close to Château Ormes de Pez, Château Tour de Pez and of course Château de Pez itself. And while there is a parcel of Lagneaux vines directly approximated to the property, the vineyard is extremely fragmented, with 19.4 hectares of vines divided between more than 90 separate parcels.
These 90 parcels are spread throughout the St Estèphe appellation, with a few located further north, around St-Corbian, close to Château Tour des Termes, and others scattered across the middle and more southern parts. There is a concentration of parcels east of Château Haut-Marbuzet, and a few close to the most famous names of the appellation, including Château Cos d’Estournel and Château Montrose.
Clearly with such a fragmented estate the terroir varies greatly across the vineyard, but broadly speaking about 70% of the vineyard is located on the gravel terroirs which are most readily associated with the Médoc, while the remaining 30% are on the oft-overlooked clay limestone terroirs which are easily forgotten but which in truth characterise the St Estèphe vineyard.
