Les Maisons Brûlées: Vineyards
The domaine is located in the commune of Pouillé, which sits on the left bank of the Cher, opposite Thésée. The vineyards abut those of the old Clos Roche Blanche domaine, specifically those now in the possession of Noëlla Morantin. Although the plain below is alluvial, up on the côtes there is flint and clay underfoot, over a deeper bedrock which is limestone.
Paul and Corinne Gillet have 8 hectares, all close to the Cher. This includes 5.5 hectares on the slopes, around the house, and 2.5 hectares on the plain. About half of what is planted is Sauvignon Blanc and Gamay, alongside which there are parcels (often mixed) of Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Menu Pineau, Pinot Noir, Pineau d’Aunis, Côt, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.
