Château Latour, 2023 Releases
Buried deep in the Winedoctor tasting notes repository (admittedly a rather over-inflated term for a pile of notebooks and a collection of desktop spreadsheets) there is a swirling morass of orphaned tasting notes. Notes from the time that technical director in Pomerol unexpectedly produced his 2017 grand vin to taste alongside the 2020s, or when the manager of that Sauternes property I visited suddenly produced a mini-vertical of his dry white for my amusement. And perhaps his, as well.
While I intend to get around to publishing those notes when they eventually hit the appropriate critical mass, whenever that is, I thought these three notes on this year’s late releases from Château Latour should be ushered into the limelight.
This is of course a case of too little, too late, as I am aware these wines were released some months ago. Unfortunately my notes were swamped in an array of 2022 primeur reports and sank to the bottom of my repository. Sorry, I mean spreadsheet.
This is a problem which I will hopefully avoid next year as I will be reworking my schedule of visits to Bordeaux, travelling out earlier in the year, long before the primeurs circus begins. With any luck I will be able to taste the Château Latour late releases and publish the notes in a more timely fashion. That’s provided the notorious gatekeeper, who before he took up his post at Latour used to guard the gates to Hades, permits entry. Fingers crossed. In the meantime, here are my notes on the 2023 releases.
