Loire 2007 at Ten Years
I come now to my fifth and final horizontal tasting of the wines of the Loire Valley this year. After taking another look at the 2014 vintage back in June, and of course there was my extensive 2016 Loire Valley vintage report published just before that in May, I have since also taken a look at the 1997 vintage at twenty years of age, and the 2002 vintage at fifteen years of age. In this final report I take a look at the 2007 vintage, now celebrating its tenth birthday.
Before continuing I feel duty-bound to point out that I have of course also cast my eyes towards Bordeaux during the course of 2017, with a detailed look at the 2016 Bordeaux vintage following my visit to the region for the primeurs, as well as an extensive tasting of the 2007 Bordeaux vintage at ten years of age, which I feel I should really be publishing alongside this 2007 Loire tasting, but which was in fact placed online back in August (already by that point overdue, bearing in mind that I tasted the wines back in January). There was also a little 2002 Bordeaux tasting, featuring a handful of wines pulled from my cellar. And I hope to squeeze in a similarly bijou tasting of 2001 Bordeaux before the end of the year (although please don’t be too surprised if it gets pushed back to January next year). There is also a Bordeaux 2013 report coming up (although I’m not sure is that is something worth shouting about too loudly).
