Ollivier Père et Fils

Ollivier Père et Fils

During a visit to the Muscadet region in 2013 I met many familiar faces, including Guy Bossard and Frédéric Niger of Domaine de l’Ecu, Jo Landron and Bruno Cormerais, to name just three. One face among the crowd, however, was quite new to me. It belonged to a cheery vigneron with a broad smile, and it turned out that his name was Jean-Luc Ollivier. There was something familiar about that name of course; it immediately called to mind the name of Marc Ollivier, the since-retired doyen of Domaine de la Pépière, a leading light within the Muscadet Sèvre et Maine appellation, and surely one of the most renowned vignerons in the region.

As it turns out there is a small network of Olliviers in the region, just as there are many other Mabileaus besides Nathalie, Charly and Rémy Mabileau in Saint Nicolas de Bourgueil and several different branches of the Dagueneau family besides Louis-Benjamin Dagueneau in Pouilly-Fumé. Jean-Luc Ollivier (pictured above) and Marc Ollivier are cousins, and to some extent their vineyards have come down from the same historical familial source.
