Domaine de la Grenaudière

Domaine de la Grenaudière

During a visit to the Muscadet region in 2013 I met many familiar faces, including Guy Bossard and Frédérick Niger van Herck of Domaine de l’Ecu, Jo Landron and Bruno Cormerais, to name just three. One face among the crowd, however, was quite new to me. It belonged to a cheery vigneron with a broad smile, and it turned out that his name was Jean-Luc Ollivier. There was something familiar about that name of course; it immediately calls to mind the name of Marc Ollivier, of Domaine de la Pépière, a leading light with the Muscadet-Sèvre-et-Maine appellation, and surely one of the best known vignerons in the region.

As it turns out there is a small network of Olliviers in the region, just as there are many other Mabileaus beside Frédéric Mabileau in Saint Nicolas de Bourgueil and several different branches of the Dagueneau family besides Benjamin Dagueneau in Pouilly-sur-Loire (in Les Berthiers and Saint Andélain, to be precise). Jean-Luc Ollivier (pictured above) and Marc Ollivier are cousins, to some extent their vineyards having come down from the same historical source.
