Château Tauzinat L’Hermitage: Vineyards

As authors of various editions of Cocks et Féret were keen to point out, this estate’s position is favourable, and thus vineyards have numerous famous neighbours. These historical references refer to the vines at Tauzinat, but in truth the modern-day vineyard is divided into two distinct parcels. The historical descriptions do hint at this, as several editions of Cocks et Féret refer to a second wine made by Paul Boisard at the Cru de Grand Treuil. Today this cru is considered the other half of the Tauzinat L’Hermitage estate.

Looking first to the Tauzinat vines (pictured below), these are located on the boundary between St-Christophe-des-Bardes and St-Hippolyte, on the côtes of the plateau. The vines sit on slopes of clay and limestone beneath Château Lapelletrie, Château Laroque and Château de Ferrand. Even closer, to the west along the ridge of the plateau, sits Château Tertre Roteboeuf. Being located in a small valley which runs up to the plateau there are various aspects here, with slopes facing both southeast and northwest.
