Château Moulin Saint-Georges: Jean Barbot
In 1602 Henri de Navarre sold the estate, one of many actions undertaken to strengthen the royal finances, Henri having incurred many debts during the preceding decade, when he had decided to wage war on Spain. The land was purchased by Jean Barbot (1580 – c.1664) who acquired it in a sale held on October 27th 1602 for 1575 livres (the currency that predated the franc). Of note, in acquiring the estate he was also elevated to the rank of baron, a sweetener from the vendor who was of course entitled to reward his subjects in this manner.
In 1642 Jean Barbot, Baron de Saint-Georges and Seigneur de Pétruault, married Marie de Boireau and they had at least four daughters as well as a son, named Pierre. One of these daughters seems to have married into the Rabar family, as the lands and the baronnie passed to them, although I have failed to establish exactly who married who. What I do know is that the next undisputed proprietor was Alexandre de Rabar (died 1653), Baron de Bauze. He married Anne de Gast on May 23rd 1661, a union that produced a son César de Rabar (born 1668) and a daughter Anne de Rabar (born c.1668). César, Marquis de Rabar, married Marie de Testard on May 31st 1695 and they too had a son and a daughter, the former named Joseph de Rabar and the latter Anne de Rabar like her aunt.
