Domaines Landron, 2025 Update

Earlier in the year in a flurry of activity, possibly fuelled by magnums of Monnières-Saint-Fiacre and all things Melon de Bourgogne, I published a run of new Muscadet updates and tasting reports, from a number of domaines including Luneau-Papin, Domaine de la Pépière, Famille Lieubeau and Bruno Cormerais. The latter in particular served as a good reminder of just how delicious Melon de Bourgogne can be, but also just how easy it is to overlook; it was the first time in too-many years that I took the opportunity to taste the wines of this domaine, now run by Bruno’s son, Maxime Cormerais, and yet these were some of the most delicious examples of Muscadet I have encountered in a long time.

Well, it seems I have continued with the theme of overlooking, as earlier this year I also revisited the wines of Domaines Landron, and my scribbled opinions have been languishing in a notebook ever since. Having spotted them last week I have hurriedly brushed them down, typed them up, and I now unceremoniously give them a shove into the Winedoctor spotlight.

The range of wines here will be familiar to many, the Landron portfolio having changed little during the course of the past two decades. On this occasion I tasted most of the well-known cuvées, including Amphibolite, Les Houx, Le Fief du Breil and so on. There are one or two important developments here though, the most significant of which is that – following in the footsteps of two other Muscadet greats, Marc Ollivier and Pierre Luneau-PapinJo Landron has now retired. Responsibility for the running of the domaine has been handed down to Jo’s daughter Hélène Landron (pictured below) and her husband Nicolas Chaurois.
