A Visit to Charles Joguet, 2016: The 2014 Vintage

As we tasted we naturally discussed the different features of the 2014 and 2015 vintages, and before getting to my tasting notes it is perhaps worth recounting some of the more significant points of this discussion here.

As readers perhaps already know, 2014 has turned out to be a very attractive vintage for many parts of the Loire Valley. This is easy to say with the benefit of hindsight and a year or two of tasting, but few would have perhaps had such hopes during the summer of this season. July was drizzly and damp, and the disease pressure was high. Many vignerons were spraying regularly to ward off mildew and rot. I know, as I spent three weeks during the summer based in Vouvray, when it seemed as if every third day it was raining.
