A Visit to Domaine Bernard Baudry, May 2023
Life has taught me that I am capable of forgetting many things.
Friends’ birthdays, for example.
The current ages of my three offspring (although I can at least remember how many I have).
My manners.
As it turns out, I am also capable of forgetting to publish notes following a visit to taste with Matthieu Baudry, at Domaine Bernard Baudry. I called in on Matthieu last year, and tasted through the entire portfolio, focusing on the 2021 and 2020 vintages. The notes then languished in one of the many notebooks piled high on my desk, and it was only when I returned to see Mathieu a few weeks ago that their existence suddenly came to mind.
And so I am reporting on this more recent tasting now, before it slips my mind altogether, and I return to my apparent resting state of happy confusion.
This tasting report therefore focuses on the 2022 and 2021 vintages, the wines tasted with Matthieu Baudry in May 2023, accompanied by commentary on both vintages from Matthieu himself. As a consequence of the above confession I also include here a handful of tasting notes on the 2020 vintage, which date from the previous tasting with Matthieu last year.
