Julien Braud: Vineyards
Like his parents Julien Braud also established himself in the heart of Monnières, on the Rue des Moulins, just around the corner from the aforementioned Domaine Fief aux Dames (which I heartily recommend, if you should find yourself staying in the region).
He currently has just over 15 hectares of vines to his name, although restructuring and replanting means as of 2022 he has about 13 hectares in production. As I have already indicated, many of the vines came from his parents’ domaine, although he has not taken everything they tend. In particular they have some vines in Le Pallet, more distant parcels which Julien does not seem inclined to take on. He is still looking to expand his domaine, but only if the parcel is local, and of interest.
The vines are almost exclusively Melon de Bourgogne, although Julien also has a tiny surface dedicated to Folle Blanche, and he has also planted a few rows of Pinot Noir and Merlot in order to add a red to his portfolio. The vineyard philosophy is purely organic, the work certified by Ecocert. Clearly committed to his land, Julien works a part of the domaine using a horse, one of a group of vignerons – the others including the Lieubeau family and Rémi Branger – to do so.
