Domaine Brégeon: Vineyards
The domaine is located in a small hamlet named Les Guisseaux, which is located to the north of the town of Gorges. It sits a stone’s throw from the waters of the Sèvre, and of course the cru communal Gorges straddles this river, north of Clisson and its granite, east of Monnières-Saint-Fiacre and its gneiss. Fréd’s nearest neighbour of note is probably Vincent Rineau, one of a number of local vignerons actively involved in the Gorges cru.
Today the domaine still has 10 hectares to its name, mostly planted with Melon de Bourgogne of course, although this total does include 0.75 hectares of Folle Blanche. I believe he also has a few rows of Egiodola, amounting to about 0.1 hectares. These latter vines are in two parcels, and are aged 40 years on average. The remaining Melon de Bourgogne is located in a number of other parcels, planted mostly on gabbro. Of the entire domaine, about 8.5 hectares are situated in Gorges, where gabbro dominates. The Melon de Bourgogne vines are on average older, at 65 years, and the vast majority of them (80% I believe) were propagated by sélection massale. They are planted typically at 7,000 vines per hectare.
