Châteaux Simard & Haut-Simard: The 20th Century

In the early 20th century, however, there was an explosion of Simard domaines (or more likely just increased awareness of those domaines that already existed). In the 1908 Cocks et Féret the Cru Haut-Simard was still present, but by this time it had passed from the hands of Goudichaut to Victor Legay, and the domaine had clearly recovered from any phylloxera attack that may have occurred, as production was now up to 30 tonneaux per annum. Château Simard also made an appearance at this time, this being the larger section below the railway line. This vineyard was in the possession of Luc Picard (presumably an ancestor of Captain Jean-Luc Picard of the Starship Enterprise) and his larger vineyard was pumping out 50 tonneaux each year.

In addition, however, there was also a Clos Simard, said to have once belonged to the Simard de Pitray family. At the time this was in the possession of Ferdinand Bouffard, who at about this time brought together a huge collection of domaines, in doing so creating the domaine we know today as Château Pavie. Indeed, the authors noted that this property, with a handsome production of 35 tonneaux, was said to be situated near the railway station but in front of this more famous estate. What its fate was, however, I am not sure.
