Château Cantin: Tasting & Drinking
Château Cantin is a very attractive estate, and it has an interesting story to tell, having progressed from monastic farm to modern-day wine estate with Rolland consultancy, albeit with a period in the doldrums during the 20th century.
Today the wines have a very traditional, ‘peripheral’ feel to them, and in that they are somewhat akin to the wine of Château Laroque, another estate with Grands Chais de France connections although still in independent ownership. Having only tasted the wines in some very recent difficult vintages it is fair to say that they struck me as good for the years in question, 2013 having been a washout on the whole, while 2012 and 2011 were hardly plain sailing. There is new interest and investment from Grands Chais de France here, and it will be interesting to see how the wines of this estate develop in the coming years. (19/2/15)
