Domaines Vinet: Vineyards
All three properties are located in either La Haye-Fouassière or Château-Thébaud, in the heart of the Muscadet Sèvre et Maine appellation. This places the vineyards predominantly on schist and gneiss, although with Château-Thébaud it should come as no surprise to learn that there is granite here too. The domaine focuses purely on Melon de Bourgogne, the Vinet family eschewing other varieties and the vin de pays scene.
The vineyards are tended along the lines of agriculture raisonnée as described by Terra Vitis. This means chemical treatments in the vineyards are reduced to the minimum number deemed possible, and there is ground-cover planted between the rows. During the growing season there is a green harvest, although the harvest-proper in autumn sees the fruit picked mainly by machine, although a few old vines are hand-harvested.
